What
would a list of woodworking sites be without a link to the great NORM
ABRAM?!?!?! This site offers quite a lot for both the novice and
professional -- there is a timetable of PBS and HGTV airing times for The New
Yankee Workshop and a whole lot more which includes: A photo-album; a
virtual tour of Norm's Shop; a complete on-line buying list for NYW memorabilia,
project plans, project videos etc, as well as a comprehensive list of
woodworking supply sites like Delta, Minwax, etc. (sponsors of the show).
Norm is a master carpenter and is one of the most skilled woodworkers
available to the public eye. I encourage anyone who is interested in
woodworking to catch a show or two -- you'll find that no matter how much
you thought you knew, this guy knows more . . . and what's even better,
he's happy to show you!
In The Workshop with John Sallots is a true testament to effort in
on-line woodworking resources. "We're Gonna Get Dirty!" -- This
is a fun site for a fun show; that is, the site (much like the NYW site, though
not as elaborate) is dedicated to a television woodworking show. In The
Workshop airs on HGTV (Home and Garden Television Canada) only. One of
the best features of this site is a full 360 degree virtual tour of the
ITW set -- a must see for anyone who likes cool effects. It also
features an online version of on of the TV show's main elements "Tips and
Jigs." This feature offers practical advice for woodworkers from
woodworkers. One very cool feature that exists on this page is an in-house
search engine which can be used to find information on any project that has been
done on the show to date. The projects are not as elaborate or involved as
those featured in the NYW, however, they are more accessible to the average
woodworker. One very cool feature that exists on this page is an in-house
search engine which can be used to find information on any project that has been
done on the show to date.
This is the official website for Home
and Garden Television Canada one of the brightest and best stations out
there for both the home-hobbiest and the professional. This site offers
links to all the most popular shows like In the Workshop etc. and has an
in-house search engine to make browsing through the site easier. If you
like doing things yourself or simply understanding how things are done,
this is the site for you -- consider it a guide to a very complete and
comprehensive resource (a kind of bibliography of helpful and interesting
television shows for people like me).
This site is dedicated to one of my
favourite magazines. I include it here because it offers features like an
on-line discussion forum where you can find Everything about tools:
Exchange ideas, find tips or leave one of your own. You can buy
on-line, download/print free projects, participate in opinion polls about
the magazine, etc. This is a very customer/woodworker oriented cite -- if
you like interactive links, here's one that I bet you haven't found yet.
Chipping
Away Incorporated is a multifaceted woodcarving resource and operates
www.woodcarvingstore.com
... the largest on-line wood carving catalog on the Internet
serving thousands of customers world wide.
This is a
great carving supplier... especially if you are into chip carving. I
wouldn't recommend these tools for the beginner... it's probably better to start
with a less expensive sort and work up from there.
This is a
relatively new site based around a relatively new magazine. Actually, the
first issue was released on April 15th, 2003. While new, this site and the
magazine itself offer some great tips, techniques, dos and don'ts, etc. for
carvers of all levels. Articles from Carving Magazine are featured
in various other magazines as well so it's clear that this site is on its way to
being one of the premier carving sites on the internet!
Another
site based around a magazine. I personally have a subscription to this
magazine because #1 its Canadian and #2, I generally like the featured articles.
I find it to be a comprehensive magazine that is useful for both the novice and
the expert alike.
This site
is great! It is truly interactive with the magazine around which it is
based. As you read through the magazine, study the drawings and materials
list it is often difficult to imagine how to get all the lumber for the lowest
possible price... well this site offers cutting diagrams, free patterns, etc.
I really like it and the magazine is great as well. I suggest picking up
the mag and definitely check out this site!
This
is one of the most comprehensive sites I have found for buying plans and
accessories.
